The department of Managua has more than 1,400.000 inhabitants, concentrating in the city of Managua most of its population. Its territorial limits are: to the north with the department of Matagalpa, to the south with the Pacific Ocean, to the east with the department of Boaco, and to the west with the department of León. Its warm climate ranges between 30 and 35 degrees Celsius in the center of the department and in the highest municipalities from 24 to 32 degrees depending on the seasons of the year, winter and summer.

It has nine municipalities, the city of Managua being the capital of Nicaragua and the most populated in the country.

Managua is a unique department in the world due to the concentration of five crater lagoons, three of them in the capital, as well as protected areas in its municipalities, being the smallest in the country, the Tiscapa lagoon, in the city of Managua.

In less than an hour, 63 kms. from the capital you can enjoy beautiful beaches in two of its municipalities; San Rafael del Sur and Villa El Carmen, which are the busiest at all times of the year by tourists from the interior of the country.

The largest tourist and commercial offer in the country is concentrated in the department of Managua. The tourist can access Managua: by air through the international airport, by land through the different border posts and by sea through the country's ports.

Its culture, nature and history is wide in all its splendor, its monumental public art, and muralist, attracts national visitors and other nationalities; its municipalities in permanent progress, its parks adorned with new games, colorful festivities full of faith and tradition.

In the municipalities of Managua, joyful traditional festivals are celebrated in honor of their patron saints: Nuestra Señora de las Victorias, in the municipality of El Crucero; San Francisco Xavier, in the municipality of Ciudad Sandino; San Rafael de Arcángel, in the municipality of San Rafael del Sur; the Virgen de la Merced, in the municipality of Mateare ;, San Francisco de Paula, in the municipality of San Francisco Libre; Nuestro Señor de Esquipulas, in the municipality of Tipitapa; the Virgen del Carmen, in the municipality of Villa El Carmen; La Santa Cruz, in the municipality of Ticuantepe; and Santo Domingo de Guzmán, in the municipality of Managua, the latter being the busiest in the entire country.

The majority of Managua's population is mestizo, men and women forging a better tomorrow enjoy prosperity, peace, social development, with higher education centers, hospitals, new schools, recreational parks for all ages, sports stadiums, living nice and safe.
