In San Juan del Norte, each region, according to its cultural and geography peculiarities, prepares various dishes, drinks or sweets that over the years become known throughout the country. Some cities still own certain foods and specialize in them.
The diet of this municipality is based on the consumption of fish in different ways, some of them are: grilled fish, fried fish, lagoon fish, fish fingers, machaca fish chorizo, machaca croquettes, mahueso soup, fish soup with crab, among others.
Shrimp: garlic shrimp, breaded shrimp, shrimp ceviche, mixed ceviche.
Different varieties of cheese and curd typical of the place:
Morolique cheeses with chili and cream, cheese and curd with vegetables, fresh, smoked and dried curds.
Desserts or sweets: Plantintack empanadas, coconut bread, rice pudding, quequisque cake, coconut cajeta with tamarind, milk cajeta with cocoa, coyol in piñonate honey.
Drinks: coconut water, toad water, ginger with sweet rapadura, chicha de coyol, milk with carol, pozol of almond seed and tiste.
