The name of Tipitapa, is an expression of Nahuatl origin that means "Place of the stone petates". Tipitapa, ancestral land, witness to the heroic Battle of San Jacinto, a feat that marked a milestone in our history and in our national sovereignty.
The city was also the venue for the signing of the “Espino Negro” Pact in 1927, a fact that gave rise to the nationalist struggle of General Augusto C. Sandino against the North American troops.
Tipitapa is the largest municipality in the department of Managua and is located 22 kilometers northeast of the capital. It limits to the north with Ciudad Darío, to the south with Granada, Tisma, Masaya and Nindirí, to the east with Teustepe and San Lorenzo and to the west with Managua, Lake Xolotlán and San Francisco Libre.
The economic activities of the municipality are agriculture with the crops of melon, sorghum, corn, peanuts and rice. Also, livestock for the production of meat mainly; also poultry, sculpture, industry and non-metallic mining.

To get to this municipality, you can take a transport unit from the bus terminal at the Mercado Mayoreo, Mercado Oriental, Mercado Iván Montenegro, El Periférico or at the Roberto Huembes Market.
To mobilize within the municipality there are urban routes, taxis and caponiers.
If you go in your own vehicle, you must take the North highway and turn at kilometer 22 to enter the municipality.
