El Crucero, along with Ciudad Sandino, is the youngest in Managua, it was born on January 10, 2000; Before -like Ticuantepe- it was part of the so-called Sierra de Managua.

It is considered "Cradle of Nicaraguan coffee growing", its inhabitants refer that the first crops occurred before the National War (1856-1857).

El Crucero, a place with a cool climate and dreamlike landscapes without equal in the department of Managua, where during the rainy months an intense mist prevails that envelops it in its entirety. Place of multiple coffee farms with alternatives for observing nature and recreation in a mountain environment very close to the capital.

It is located 26 kilometers from the city of Managua. It limits to the north with Managua, to the south with San Marcos and San Rafael del Sur, to the east with Ticuantepe and La Concepción and to the west with Villa El Carmen.

The fundamental economic activity of the municipality is the cultivation of coffee, which is why it is a source of temporary massive employment during the harvest season, specifically between the months of November to March.

If you want to visit the municipality, you must board a transport unit bound for Pochomil, from the Israel Lewites Market bus terminal, in the city of Managua; then take a taxi or caponier to go to the place of your preference within the municipality.

You can also travel by private vehicle, on the South Pan-American Highway, take the detour to the south of the El Crucero municipality, to the southeast there is a road that crosses the entire municipality and arrives directly.

Another access to San Rafael del Sur is through the Las Conchitas junction, diverting to the southwest on the main highway.
